GW Travel Luxury Train Tours of Russia/Siberia, China/Tibet, India,
and Canada

Rail
Travel Center® serves as a North American representative of the world’s
most luxurious tour trains, operated by our British partners at GW Travel,
“Voyages of a Lifetime by Private Train”. GW Travel is the leader in
exclusive, quality private train journeys through Russia, China, India and
Canada.
Operating for more than 14 years, their flagship tour
has always been the world-famous 6,000+ mile Trans-Siberian railway aboard
their private “Trans-Siberian Express”. 2007 saw the introduction, on this
route, of the new super-deluxe “Golden Eagle Trans-Siberian Express”. On
this remarkable new train, all staterooms offer single or double occupancy
with private shower baths! By contrast, the regular Russian trains do not
offer any sleepers with private toilets and, on the regular trains,
passengers share in four or six-berth sleepers. GW Siberia tours travel
all the way from Moscow to Vladivostok (with a side-trip to Ulan Bator,
Mongolia) and include very extensive enroute sightseeing as such
fascinating places as Irkutsk on Lake Baikal.
Renowned
for instigating tours to places once thought impossible, the company has
now expanded its offerings to include China, aboard the “Shangri-La
Express”; India using the equipment of ultra-deluxe “Deccan Odyssey”
train; and Canada on the restored 1940s equipment of the Canadian Pacific
Railway.
GW Travel’s China tours feature a cultural jewel: the
Silk Road from Beijing all the way to Moscow, following in the path of
Marco Polo. The Hong Kong - Beijing departures include a Three Gorges
river cruise. Service to Tibet should resume in 2009.
GW’s India programs seek to recreate the luxury era of
grand-luxe travel during the Raj.
These
trips are marketed as the “Darjeeling Mail Tours” and completely cross the
subcontinent from Mumbai (Bombay) to Jaipur, visiting the World Heritage
Site “ghost city” of Fatehpur Sikri, Agra (for the Taj Mahal), Delhi,
Varanasi (situated on the banks of the Ganges), and Calcutta. A tour
highlight is the ascent into the Himalayan Mountains to Darjeeling on the
steam-powered narrow gauge “Toy Train” of the Darjeeling Himalayan
Railway. This is the only rail tour visiting more than one Indian state.
It offers a matchless level of comfort combined with an in-depth view of
the states of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and
West Bengal. The “Deccan Odyssey” train-set used on the India tours offers
compartments with single or double berths and private shower baths in
every room, plus an elegant lounge car and, in the dining car, a choice of
western or Indian cuisine at all meals.
GW’s
Canada trips highlight steam specialty tours using the Canadian Pacific
Railway’s magnificently restored 4-6-4 “Empress” Hudson steam locomotive
through the Canadian Rockies. Only with GW Travel can you ride through the
legendary Spiral Tunnels or cross the heights of the Crowsnest Pass behind
steam. These are the only steam-powered trips open to the general public
over the CPR’s legendary Rocky Mountain route. New for 2008 is an
extensive enroute touring program.
Providing
customers with the most unique, comfortable and safe adventures possible,
GW Travel strives to ensure the best available on-train services and
off-train tours. Both British and local English-speaking guides accompany
all trips. Tours in Russia, China, Tibet and India include an on-board
British doctor. These tours are truly all-inclusive, as the price includes
train travel, hotels, all sightseeing, luggage handling, escort services,
meals, and even wine and beer with lunch and dinner on most tours.
We have special full-color catalogs outlining the full
details of all GW Travel Tours. These trips are not inexpensive, but the
value for your money is exceptional. GW Travel makes visiting “the ends of
the earth” as comfortable, sage, and informative as possible. When you
call, please advise us if your interest is in Russia/Siberia, China, India
or Canada. All aboard!
