NEW! The 2008 Mystery Tour

May
7-11, 2008
Tour from $1149.00
The fourth departure in our unique series of “Mystery
Tours” shifts to explore springtime in the old south. It includes four
nights/five days of unique activities, beginning and ending in Atlanta
(but not staying there). This tour explores a very beautiful part of
Georgia. We see sights from the Civil War, elegant gardens at the peak of
spring bloom, and the one-time capital of an independent nation (not
Georgia, the United States, or the Confederacy). We tour railway museums
and view locations central to the lives of two presidents. The scenery
varies from mountain ranges to piney forests. Only one attraction on this
tour ever has been visited previously by Rail Travel Center in its 25-year
history!
Included is a half-day ride on a restored branch-line
railway, with a unique enroute stop-over to explore a very special little
town. We see a legendary steam engine, ride a caboose, and take a trip on
one of America’s best new urban rail systems. Our tour features two
relaxing two-night hotel stays, one of which is a spectacular National
Historic Landmark hotel. As always, there are special meals to savor as
well. More we cannot say! The tour is led by popular Rail Travel Center®
tour manager Denny Thompson.
TOUR PRICES include all lodging; three dinners, two
continental breakfasts, two full breakfasts, one sit-down lunch and one
picnic lunch; all admissions; rail fares; services of a tour manager; and
luggage handling. The tour begins at Atlanta’s Hartsfield International
Airport at 12:30PM on May 7 and ends with drops back at the Airport for
flights after 3:00PM on May 11.
Participants also can ride Amtrak’s CRESCENT to connect
to this tour. From points between New York and Atlanta, same-day
connections are possible to/from the tour. From points on the CRESCENT
line between New Orleans and Atlanta, a pre- and post-tour night would be
required in Atlanta to properly connect. Amtrak passengers will need to
take a taxi between Peachtree Station and the Airport. Cab fare typically
runs $30-35 between these points.
$1149.00 per person, double occupancy
$1349.00 single occupancy
